About The Q Hotel Miles
The original hotel was built just prior to 1877, owned and operated by Michael John Fogerty.
At The Q Hotel Miles we are all about country friendly hospitality. Miles is the gateway to the outback and we want your introduction to be memorable and enjoyable. We take pride in offering good service, premium quality steak, a delicious A La Carte Menu, pleasant ambiance and friendly staff. All meals are available for takeaway or delivery and we offer a courtesy bus 7 days a week.
Given its central role in the community, the pub was often a hive of activity, being a place where
weary travellers could stop for rest and enjoy the famous hospitality and for locals to meet and
socialise… while posting a few letters of course.
In the early 1900’s the hotel was purchased by one of the famous Lawton brothers, Jim Lawton.
Legend surrounds the Lawton name and the story goes that the pub was purchased with diamonds, won by Lawton in buck jumping contests conducted in South Africa, where he had
travelled to prepare horses for the Boer war.
In 1911 the ownership changed once again as S. Gillis took the reins. It as Gillis who played host to the then governor of Queensland, sir William McGregor.
The hotel would change hands once again in 1919, being held for a brief period by W.R. Osbourne, before finally coming into the possession of Jack Healy… it has stayed in the family ever since!
The Queenslander has borne witnessing to much of the town’s history, quite literally flood, fire,
and famine… boom and bust, all the while serving as a place to come, socialise, celebrate and share a beer.
